In my previous post [Two-centre Operation – Part 2: What are Virtual Centres Representing?] 2015.12.29, I discussed the last move of Biu Jee in which the spine acts not as a vertical upright straight axis, but a curve capable of “bending” and “flipping” (in appearance) due to inside rotating of its various vertebral joints.
In the short clips attached in this post, I demonstrated a possible effect of such, which I term as the “curving power” of the spine – the curving spine empowers the extended body trunk towards the far front up to the limit of reach by the extended arms up to the fingertips.
There are two short episodes, basically showing the same movement. There is a slight difference, though – In the first episode, my partner apparently hadn’t been able to predict the level of power to be exerted on him, and hence just put up a normal preparation for blocking me. The result was that my two forearms could “penetrate” downward quite quickly, at a position relatively distant from my body.
On the contrary, in the second episode, my partner should have been aware of the magnitude of such power and thus more seriously prepared himself to chunk out greater force in resisting. It turned out to be a pause in between, where he held his resisting force against the penetration of my forearms. The pause was soon broken by changes of multi-directional forces at the contacts empowered by the curving spine. The final result was that my forearms could only penetrate downward at a position relatively closer to my body.
In both episodes, my feet didn’t move, signifying no dragging or pulling by body momentum was intended.
Nevertheless, there is no implication that the result in the second episode is inferior to that in the first. The difference only reflects that moves caused by joint rotating (including the curving of the spine) can automatically adjust themselves when interacting with the opponent, always with the tendency (your intent) of breaking the opponent’s structure by penetrating, in contrast to pressing, pulling and pushing.
